Kazem Alemi

Kazem Alemi was born in Tehran, Iran. He began studying music at the age of 12 in Conservatory of Music playing the Tar with Masters Hooshang Zarif and Aliakbar Khan Shahnazi. At the same time he studied the basics of music and the Piano.

In 1972 he received his first prize for the composition he wrote for 12 Tars. After graduating from The Conservatory of Music with honors he continued his studying in University of Southern California by the scholarship he received in 1977 from National Iranian Radio and Television. In 1980 he graduated from USC receiving his Master Degrees in composition and won the Peter Faith Memorial Award for one of his compositions he wrote for a chamber orchestra.

Kazem Alemi composed an orchestral composition ( Eyvan Madaen) for Tehran Symphony Orchestra that was performed in 1982, conducted by the composer. He is currently writing and teaching music in Los Angeles.
